Causes

  1. Overexposure to sunlight, especially surfaces facing South and West.
  2. Insufficient quantity of paint.
  3. Inadequate surface maintenance.
  4. Chemical products, acid rains.
  5. Chalking.
  6. Alkali found on concrete.
  7. Poor quality of paint.
  8. Interior paint used outdoors.

Solutions


1. Also for causes 2-5 & 8:
For slight discolouration, clean the surface and repaint. For severe discolouration clean and strip the surface, then repaint.
2. For causes 6 & 7:
Clean the surface, then apply a base coat and repaint.
  • Inorganic colourants are more resistant outdoors than organic colourants.
  • Acrylic-based products are more resistant to sunlight.
  • Never apply interior products outdoors.
