This year is coming to an end and 2017 is just around the corner. What interior decorating trends await us in the year ahead? Like any true interior designer, I'm always on the lookout for the latest trends in decorating and renovation. Here are my finds.

Herringbone ceramic
Say goodbye to the "subway" look: make room for herringbone, something you'll see more and more on kitchen backsplashes and bathroom walls. On rectangular tiles, this zigzag motif can pack serious oomph into any space. Go for tone-on-tone tiles and grout, if you want to preserve that subway look. Alternatively, take the bold route and opt for darker grout to create a contrasting effect. I just love it! With ceramic or natural stone, this design can create an amazingly beautiful space.

Velvet on furniture
One of the latest trends is to add velvet to furniture, like sofas and headboards. Embellished with crafted seams and decorative buttons, velvet can make furniture of any kind chic. Deep-coloured fabric, such as royal blue, emerald green or forest, can add some much-needed life to gray and neutral spaces.

Exotic patterns and patchwork
In 2017, we will also see an eclectic mix of patterns and textures. From the botanical (with leaves and plants) and profusion look to Navajo or Mexican motifs, there will be something for everyone.

Bottom line: When it comes to your home, colour and warmth will be all the rage. That's great news for you and me!
