Lazy summer days are over, and with the change of seasons it’s time to reorganize and refresh your interiors to get them fall ready. Organizing your home doesn’t have to be stressful. By taking on the task well in advance, your home will be in shape to face a new season and a new school year.

The best way to start reorganizing is to unclutter. Put things back where they belong, find a place for every item in your home, and assess the things you want to get rid of by deciding whether they can be sold, donated to charity or passed down to family members, friends or acquaintances.

Re-evaluate the efficiency of your entryway and prep the front hall closet for fall and winter coats. Remove off-season clothing and summer-related accessories and gear, keep regularly used items handy and store those you won’t be using or wearing until next year. If you need more storage space, think about visiting organizing stores for supplies that are both functional and stylish.

If you have kids, consider hanging hooks on the wall for their backpacks and fall layers and accessories. Place sturdy baskets in the closet or under a bench or console table for their shoes. Don’t forget to display a family calendar in a visible spot so that everyone is aware of weekly activities and important dates.

Don’t forget to prep for fun times too! Get a head start on the upcoming seasons and start thinking of fall entertaining ideas, prep the garden for winter, and organize your holiday stationery. As indoor entertaining will be taking the place of patio get-togethers and dinner parties, store your outdoor furniture or cover it to protect it against the elements.

Even if you’re not fully ready to get your home in shape right now, consider starting small with a few tasks to get you ahead well before fall officially starts! And remember, if you keep it neat and tidy on a daily basis, you will avoid total clutter chaos!
