Setting up your home office

Nowadays, many of us find ourselves working from home. And while home is our cocoon, working remotely also comes with its share of distractions (we’re looking at you, full load of laundry). That’s why ensuring you have a functional and efficient work environment is essential. Here are three ideas to get you set up comfortably.

The dining room

The dining room

If you don’t have a separate room you can use as a dedicated workspace, consider the dining room! Beyond its proximity to the coffee machine, the benefits of working out of the dining area is that it’s a room designed to be warm, inviting, and multi-functional. Ideally, you’ll want to have a desk in your dining area, rather than using the kitchen table.

Having a designated space for work means you won’t have to worry about tidying up ahead of dinner or losing track of important documents. But if you lack the necessary space in the dining room, your kitchen island is another great option — just make sure to have an ergonomic chair handy.

Your bedroom

Your bedroom

Your bedroom is another viable option for a home office if you don’t have the space in another room. But keep in mind that if you do choose to set up in your bedroom, you’ll want to take steps to maintain its peaceful and comforting feel; after all the bedroom is meant to be a place to unwind. The last thing you want to be dreaming about is tomorrow’s workload.

Opt for paint colours that have a calming but inspiring vibe. Colours in a blue-grey, green-grey, or soft mauve palette will all strike that just-right balance.

Pro Tip! Paint the accent wall your desk is up against a different colour. This will clearly define the part of your room that’s designated for work.

The living room

Cool Green (6166-42)

The living room

With its ample size, our living rooms can serve as a great space for a home office setup. For example, you can transform a wall-mounted bookcase into a desk by transforming a shelf into a work surface. Or use a piece of furniture in a more isolated corner of the room. No matter how you choose to integrate your workspace into a living area, though, be sure your space is efficiently organized for guaranteed productivity. Storage is key for a successful remote workspace.

For your living room, fresh colours like sage green or aqua can help bring your room to life!
