Do it with Sico

Swap the brush for a sponge

Yep, you read that right.. A sponge, paint, a tray and a pair of scissors are what you’ll need to recreate the look of wallpaper—for way less. Want to give this DIY project a try? Here’s how!

What you'll need:
● A basecoat paint  ● Paint for your stamps  ● A paint tray  ● Scissors (optional)
That's it!

Step 1: Prime with basecoat

Step 1: Prime with basecoat

First, you’ll need to choose which wall you want to paint. If you haven’t done so already, now’s the time to paint your wall in the colour you’ve chosen. Remember, when using a basecoat, it’s always important to respect the required drying time, which usually takes approximately 2 to 4 hours.

Step 2: Choose the motif

Step 2: Choose the motif

Now it’s time to choose what pattern you want to feature on your accent wall. We like the vertical line effect that you can create by using the side of the sponge. But, this is your wall so you have total creative freedom to do as you please! Another easy option is to cut the edges off the sponge, creating a rounded-edge rectangular shape.

But it’s your wall, so it’s up to you to let your imagination run wild! If you’re feeling crafty, you can cut the edges off the sponge to create a more organic-shaped rectangle with softer edges.

Step 3: Start stamping!

Here comes the fun part! Dip the rectangular side of your sponge into the paint and stamp the wall into your desired pattern. Stamp your sponge on the wall a few times before soaking it in the paint. You’ve got free reign to transform your accent wall with whatever motif you like most, from vertical lines, chevron shapes, squares, or even crosses. The choice is yours!

Pro tip

Start stamping in the top left corner of the wall and try to keep equal spacing between each stamp from start to finish.

And there you have it! A fun, vibrant accent wall in just three simple steps. Ready to do it at home? On your marks, get set, sponge!
